How to use the llms.txt generator
What llms.txt actually is
llms.txt is a plain-Markdown file served at your site's root (/llms.txt) that lists your most important pages with a one-line description each, so an LLM or AI crawler can find your best content without parsing your full HTML and navigation. It's a proposed standard, not a Google ranking signal — think of it as a sitemap.xml written for language models instead of search engine crawlers.
How this generator works
Paste one line per page as URL | title | description. The generator writes the required H1 (your site name) and summary blockquote, then lists your pages as Markdown links with their descriptions. Pages you mark as secondary can go under an ### Optional heading, which per the llms.txt convention tells an LLM these pages can be skipped first if it's short on context.
Where to put the file
Save the output as llms.txt in your site's root directory (the same place robots.txt and sitemap.xml live) so it's reachable at yoursite.com/llms.txt. There's no submission process — crawlers that support the convention check for the file directly.
llms.txt doesn't replace your robots.txt
llms.txt tells a crawler what to prioritize; it has no power to block one. If you want to control whether AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended) can access your site at all, that's still a robots.txt decision — the two files answer different questions.
llms.txt Generator FAQ
Is the llms.txt generator free?
Yes. The llms.txt generator is free to use on Seobase with no signup required for the on-page llms.txt file.
Can I use the llms.txt generator for SEO content?
Yes. The tool is built for search-focused workflows and pairs best with human review before publishing.
Is llms.txt an official standard?
It's a proposed convention, not a W3C or search-engine-backed standard, and adoption among AI crawlers is still uneven. It costs one small file to publish, so most sites treat it as a low-risk bet on a format that may become more widely read over time.
Does llms.txt help me rank in ChatGPT or Perplexity?
It's not a ranking or citation mechanism — it doesn't make an LLM cite you more. It's a discovery aid: if a crawler that respects llms.txt visits your site, it can find your key pages faster. Being cited still depends on the page content itself.
Can I generate this from my sitemap.xml instead of typing pages by hand?
Paste your page list in the URL | title | description format above — most CMS platforms can export a page list you can reformat quickly. This tool doesn't fetch a live sitemap URL; it works from what you paste, so nothing leaves your browser.
