How to use the sitemap validator
What an XML sitemap validator checks
A sitemap validator checks the XML structure, whether each loc value is an absolute HTTP(S) URL, duplicate locations, and parseable lastmod values. It can validate a urlset or sitemap index, but it does not fetch every page or prove that Google selected a URL for indexing.
Sitemap validator versus a crawler
A validator reads the XML you paste. A crawler or live HTTP check is still needed to confirm that the sitemap returns 200, child sitemap files are reachable, URLs are canonical, and pages are indexable. Use both when a migration or deployment changes the sitemap.
How to fix common sitemap errors
Remove duplicate loc values, replace relative URLs with absolute HTTPS URLs, correct malformed XML, and use an ISO-style lastmod value that reflects a real material update. Keep URLs in the sitemap canonical and indexable, then submit the final file in Search Console.
Sitemap Validator FAQ
Is the XML sitemap validator free?
Yes. The XML sitemap validator is free to use on Seobase with no signup required for the on-page sitemap validation report.
Can I use the XML sitemap validator for SEO content?
Yes. The tool is built for search-focused workflows and pairs best with human review before publishing.
Can this validator fetch my sitemap URL?
No. Paste the XML into the browser-based checker. It does not crawl or store your sitemap, so use a live request and Search Console when you need HTTP or indexation evidence.
Can it validate a sitemap index?
Yes. It recognizes a sitemapindex root and checks the child sitemap loc values. It does not fetch those child files, so validate each child file separately when you need complete coverage.
Does a valid sitemap guarantee indexing?
No. Valid XML helps discovery, but Google still evaluates the page, canonical signals, quality, and eligibility before indexing or ranking it.
